So I've been wanting to make a bandanna skirt after I saw the great pics and tut at V and Co. It is seriously SO easy and quick and I think it's darling! I got the pink bandanna at Walmart for $1 and will be going back and getting lots more colors for my daughter to wear this summer. I chose to topstitch the strim for a more finished look and to keep it down. I had this black and white polka dot fabric already and love it with the bandanna.
I found this yesterday and just LOVED it. How cute? It's from Dana of MADE. And she was a guest tutorial blogger on V and Co. I'm planning on making it, although my husband wasn't thrilled with the idea. I wish I had mint green felt on hand, but will have to do pink.....
Will look great over the fireplace. Need to dress it up for Easter!
The other thing I have my eye on is this tutorial at V and Co. for refashioning a women's skirt into a girl's dress. I scored lots of cool big skirts at the thrift store when it was going out of business so I can't wait to do some refashioning! -ellen
I made this pleated purse awhile ago from My Spare Time blog. I love it so much and use it everyday. It's the perfect size and has four pockets inside that are great. I got this fabric from Denver Fabrics. I've been making purses when I can for birthday presents and finally finished up two this past weekend.
Inside pockets are the perfect size for cell, lip gloss, point and shoot camera.....
I call this my hippie fabric and also got this at Denver Fabrics when I was in Denver. Store is amazing with lots of clearance 54" home decor fabrics. Great prices and fun prints! Too bad I'm now 7 hours from it......SIGH.
I ADORE this brown and white fabric and actually got this at Walmart a while ago. I know, I was SHOCKED to find it there. Lined it in dark denim for some great weight. This was one I made last month for a friend. Can you believe I got this gorgeous black fabric with silver and gold metallic flowers at the thrift store? Got about 5 yds for $5. I mean come on! So if you're wanting a cute new purse for spring, try this pattern. It's a great tutorial. Took a bit to figure out the pleats but now I've got it!
Here's the cute Forever You brown dress I won from Dana at MADE. I love it. Better yet, my daughter loves it and didn't want to take it off. But it's still winter here in Colorado, so will have to wait....
So I FINALLY got to have some sewing time today and it was HEAVEN! I got a lot done. I made this cute toile sundress for my girlie. It's based on this tutorial from Lil Blue Boo, but I made a bunch of changes. I made the top section from two pieces so I could put the raw edges of the straps inside for a neater look. I added a ruffle on the bottom. Wanted the edges to fray, so I sewed 1/4" from the two edges to stop the fraying there. Then I basted with my sewing machine, pinned it on the finished edge and stitched two lines down the center. I also made braided straps from tiny strips of fabric. Left the edges raw cause I liked the fraying and the look.
Added a braided fabric loop in the back that the straps go into. You can knot the straps or tie a bow. I love the look and was SO easy to do!
She loves it!
Gotta have a fake smile. At least one!
Back knotted. I'll be making lots of dresses with these straps. I loved making them.
Twirl! I think I got the twirl approval for this dress. Will be wearing it lots this summer!
Here's some pics of my little girl's room. Lots of handmade things. Decoupaged letter on door. Got letter at Hobby Lobby for $2 and ripped scrapbook paper and Modge Podge. Used glue and glitter for some fun!
This wooden puzzle plaque was from my childhood and it just makes me happy....
Bought night light kits at Hobby Lobby with 40% off coupon for $4. Took some great fabric I have and covered it. I LOVE this night light and have one to make for my son. I can never find affordable cute night lights.
Some things on her bookcase (got on clearance at Target). Pink guitar from thrift store for $2 and stained glass was from Steamboat, given to me. I love the giant paper clip (from Walgreens clearance) and the gorgeous lamp you probably can't see was my great grandmother's and mine growing up.
Painted wooden letters above her bed (was my bed since 6 years old). Letters are also glittered and hot glued with ribbon.
Paper lanterns from ACE for a few dollars. Photos are from Jan Schill Photography and I got canvases made at Winkflash.
Beatrix Potter figurines from my grandmother.
Green curtains are from Target and I ruffled fabric and sewed it onto the curtains. Flowers are hung onto the tiebacks.
And of course, every little girl needs a gorgeous chandelier in their room.
I won a CUTE brown dress from FOREVER YOU today for my daughter. It was featured on MADE, one of my very favorite blogs. YEAH TO ME (and my little girl). It was the one I wanted on the giveaway. What a great start to my day! And tonight I am hosting my neighborhood mom group with Mexican night so it will be FUN all day (minus the entire day cleaning I will be doing...). Thanks Dana! -ellen
So when I opened my etsy shop last year I asked my very talented friend Kathryn if she would design some banners for me. Boy did she! She spent so much time doing it for me (she has 3 kids) and I loved them all. I would love to get some opinions on what you think, so leave me a comment and let me know your favorite. If you need some design help you can email Kathryn at Shaffer Design.
